HIV is most commonly passed on amongst gay or bisexual men through unprotected anal sex. HIV is found in blood and sexual fluids and can be passed on if any one of these fluids enters the body. This can happen from:
- having unprotected anal or vaginal sex. In addition, although this is much less common, there is a low risk through unprotected oral sex
- sharing drug-injecting equipment such as needles, syringes, filters, water, spoons.
Whatever happened or however your partner contracted HIV, you need to try to decide what is best for you and how you intend to cope with this news.
