Smoking and Health ·
Smoking is a key cause of ill health and premature death. Those who smoke are at increased risk of:
- cardiovascular disease
- atherosclerosis (build up of fatty deposits in the artery walls, which can increase the risk of stroke
- cancer – lung, mouth, nose and throat, larynx (throat), oesophagus, pancreas, bladder, stomach, leukaemia, lymphoma, kidney
- chronic bronchitis, emphysema and other lung diseases
- infections of the airways
- fertility and erection problems.
