Gay Men and Claiming Asylum ·
In 1999 the House of Lords decided that a person’s sexuality was a significant factor in them claiming asylum in the UK, depending on the claimant’s country of origin.
Persecution against gay men has been witnessed in countries such as Pakistan, Jamaica, Uganda, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Egypt, etc.
It is recommended that you inform the immigration service straight away that your sexuality affects your claim for asylum, as failure to do so could lead to your claim being unsuccessful.
