Since December 2005 gay weddings (civil partnerships) have become legal and hundreds of couples have ‘tied the knot’.
In order to apply for a civil partnership, you and your partner both need to be over 16 and not already in a marriage or a civil partnership.
Civil partnerships cannot be held in churches, although you can get a blessing afterwards should you desire it, as long as the church agrees.
Although recognised in the UK, civil partnerships are still not universally recognised, so you may want to check with the embassy of any country for their position.
A civil partnership or a stable relationship is associated with a slower rate of progression to AIDS or death in HIV-infected patients receiving HAART.
If you do undertake a civil partnership, you will need to update your will, as it is now not valid, so update your will to ensure that your express wishes stand a better chance of being upheld.
