Should I tell my employer? ·
You are not obliged to tell your employer about your HIV status. If you decide to, decide who to tell on a ‘need to know’ basis. It could be your line manager but it could, especially if you are working for a large organisation, be someone in the human resources or occupational health departments. They should tell no-one else, including your boss, without your permission.
A possible advantage of disclosure is the Disability Discrimination Act. This has a provision for ‘reasonable adjustments’, such as time off for appointments or possible flexible hours.
