Telling your Family ·
Choosing to tell your family can be easier said than done. All families are different and individual family members may have wildly differing attitudes and opinions. Some guys find it a lot easier to tell a sibling than a parent, for example.
If you are a parent yourself, revealing your status to your children can be a very difficult decision.
If you do want your family to know your news, carefully select the first family member you disclose to. Once they’ve got used to the idea, enlist their help if and when you decide to tell the others.
There are some horror stories of guys being rejected by their families for declaring their status. It would be foolish to pretend this doesn’t sometimes happen. In the majority of cases, however, positive guys find real benefits in having family members aware of their situation. Just knowing that their support is there, if required, can be a real source of comfort and strength.
“My partner told his family and they’ve accepted it pretty well and been quite supportive.” – Frank
