Personal Safety and Sexuality ·
It’s not always about the travel restrictions of healthcare – your personal safety and wellbeing while you are away are sometimes about others’ reaction to your HIV status or sexuality.
If visiting someone new, such as someone you met in the chat rooms, it maybe better to raise the subject of your HIV status before a visit, rather than place yourself in possible danger in a strange place away from home. You never know what someone’s reaction will be until you tell them.
Remember it’s not always about your HIV status, it can be your sexuality that is the most important consideration when away from home. In some countries homosexuality can be illegal or could possibly have different ages of consent to those in Scotland.
Make sure you know how to contact the emergency services. They may use a different phone number to the one you are used to using at home.
