HIV and Sex ·
Finding out you have HIV can be a shock and can make you feel differently about yourself in lots of ways, including how you feel about having sex. It can take time to sort out your feelings.
There is no reason why discovering you have HIV should prevent you from having a full and enjoyable sex life.
It’s important to remember that HIV is an infection – not some moral judgement or excuse for people to treat you badly.
Stigma and prejudice may make you feel bad about yourself and you may think you are less physically or sexually attractive.
You may feel anxious about having sex and worry about the risk of infecting your sexual partner(s). This can change your desire to have sex or may put you off having sex – at least temporarily. It may also affect what you want to do sexually.
“Sometimes it’s easier to end a relationship than disclose and be rejected.” – Pedro
